You still have legal rights as a hit-and-run victim
Your legal options in the wake of a hit-and-run accident vary significantly depending on whether the hit-and-run driver is found. If the police are able to identify the driver, then you can file a claim with his or her insurance company, or file a lawsuit, just as you would after any other accident.
If the hit-and-run driver is never found, then you still have some options, depending on your insurance policy. Personal injury protection (PIP) will help with some of your medical expenses and lost wages. A driver who can't be found is considered uninsured by default, so if you have uninsured motorist (UM) protection, you can file a claim with your own insurance company. UM claims can be surprisingly complex and difficult, and we can help you file your claim with your insurance company.
If you don't have PIP or UM coverage, we still want to hear from you. We can review your insurance policy to see whether your carrier actually offered you these types of coverage, as required by state law. There may be other avenues of compensation we can pursue as well.
